What percentage of the animals taken to the Topeka humane shelter were euthanized last month?
(Choose one then see the answer at the bottom of this page.)

  • 0% They all found forever homes
  • 25% Some were to sick or biters and had to be put down
  • 50% HSUS estimated average for all shelters in the U.S.
  • Over 70% There are too many animals and not enough homes for them in Topeka

These pups all ended up in the local shelter because there are too many dogs and not enough homes in Topeka... some of them, and thousands of others just like them, never made it out. Please spay and neuter your pets to keep this from happening to other pups!

ANSWER: It is estimated that many months over 500 animals are euthanized in Shawnee County this means that well over 70% of the animals taken into the shelter don't make it out. Countless others have died in the city because they had no one to care for them and keep them safe.

Think that a purebred puppy won't end up at the shelter? Over 25% of the animals at the nation's shelters are purebreds. An even larger percent of dogs and cats at the shelters have a parent who is purebred. The only solution is to spay and neuter your pets even if they are purebred, registered with papers!
